In a nutshell

Discover Norway’s hidden gems!
This remote region is rarely visited: imagine mountains offering incredible possibilities, where you will be struck by a sense of immensity and solitude, from the peaks overlooking the fjords to the last bends along the coast!
West of Alta, north of Langfjord, lie mountains offering countless possibilities.
The wild beauty of the landscapes combined with the quality of the snow make this trip an unforgettable and unmissable adventure for any ski touring enthusiast.

Ski touring in the Finnmark Alps

Roadbook

The Finnmark Alps reach a height of 1,191 meters on the Øksfjord glacier. They feature a large ice cap at high altitude with a few very alpine peaks around them and typical plateau mountains. These mountains are perfect for skiing, with the possibility of climbing gentle slopes and descending straight down to the sea on steep slopes if you feel like it.
There are also enough forests to enjoy powder snow!

During a day of ski touring, we cover between 800 and 1,600 meters of elevation gain. It’s easy for us to adapt to the group and offer one, two, or more tours so that everyone can get the most out of the experience, depending on their fitness level and preferences!

Since 2009, we have been offering trips up there. Over the years, we have forged strong ties with the locals, who help us organize the best possible stay for you.

What do we offer?

Comfortable accommodation with magnificent views.
Certified, knowledgeable, and friendly guides.
The best possible service before, during, and after your trip.
Fresh, local food prepared daily by our chef.
A choice of itineraries for all levels.

At this latitude, the length of daylight varies between the dark period in the middle of winter and the midnight sun in late spring and summer. In mid-March, the days are comparable to those in the Alps, and grow rapidly longer.

As for the Northern Lights, they can be seen until early April!

Although the region is far north of the Arctic Circle, don’t expect extreme cold! The Gulf Stream moderates temperatures and makes life possible along the coast of northern Norway. No thermal shock! In the heart of winter, it can be very cold on a few rare days, but between March and May, it is generally between -10 and +10 degrees Celsius. The oceanic climate has its own specific characteristics, with sometimes rapidly changing weather (byge in Norwegian).

Our lodge is located an hour’s drive from Alta Airport. Simple and comfortable, on the edge of a fjord, it offers tranquility and a sauna or jacuzzi for those who don’t want to swim directly in the fjord.

A chef will prepare fresh, local produce for you.

Access by road
Some hikes start right outside the door! When we take our minibus to travel to the nearby fjords, the journey will take between 10 and 45 minutes.

Access by sea
Depending on the mountain range we are heading for, we will use regular ferry services or small boats that we will rent locally from fishermen. The network of contacts we have built up over the years allows us to be very flexible and to be dropped off and/or picked up at many secret locations!
